How Robustus Work
Robustus is an application that limits childrens phone use time. We decided to only target the phones because they are portable and have sensors that track activity. Also, today no individual leaves the house without their phone and rarely exercises without it. In fact, the average American spends 4.7 hours a day on their cell phone (Chang). There are already sensors in phones that can monitor how active a person is and give amount of steps taken each day. We decided to try and help with childhood obesity by limiting children's cell phone use to a healthy amount. The guardians will be able to purchase the app in the app store and install it on their device. From there, parents can then set up the amount of time their child can use their, just like the application Net Nanny ("Net Nanny® for Android."). The application will provide guardians recommended healthy amounts of time for the children to use their phone based on age and their average daily exercise amount. In addition, we understand that not all activity can be tracked by the phone, so parents have the option in inserting the amount of hours their child has per day. For example, if the kid has football or basketball practice the parents can put in the amount of time into the app and it will give them more time on their phone. This application is great because it promotes exercise to children and gets them off the couch! Kids all across America will now have more incentive to get up and exercise with the help of the parents.
